About us

Cafe Yaxha

In 2004 we - Anne Weirauch and Dieter Richter - opened CAFE ARQUEOLOGICO YAXHA in Flores, Guatemala. The idea was to create a place, where the culturally interested traveller would find information about the Mayans.

The walls are covered with photos, maps, newspaper articles, and drawings of different archaeological sites and projects and there is a
library with important books about the Mayan World. The cafe is also the meeting point for archaeologists and other scientists working on the actual sites.

We arrange tours to Mayan sites that travellers usually do not get to. Some of those sites are
in danger of getting assaulted by looters. But looters won't work where they might get interrupted. Thus, by leading tours to these sites once or twice a week we will discourage looting and by your participation in a tour you collaborate with the protection of Mayan sites!

By taking a guided tour with us you will get great
insights into the scientific work at sites currently under investigation. We will take you to places that are normally not open to the public such as buildings under excavation or investigation tunnels.
